Main Purpose of the Post:
The Jewish Small Communities Network, in collaboration with Swansea University, is undertaking a one-year project to connect the oral, documentary and digital histories of six target small communities. Small Jewish community histories are often overlooked in the dominant narratives of Jewish heritage in Britain, yet they are a crucial piece in many local histories, and are often connected through shared life histories, educational and religious practices and exchanges with their non-Jewish neighbours. These are everyday, often unexceptional stories, but the aging and diminishing nature of many small communities mean their stories are at risk of being lost.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to work with the Jewish Small Communities Network to deliver on its ‘Connecting “Small” Communities’ project.

The project aims to: record the footprint and heritage of the UK Jewish community in 6 target towns in England where this is vulnerable to loss;
connect these areas to existing Jewish history and heritage projects and resources;
foster exchange between communities through a dedicated Heritage Hub hosted by JSCN.
Working with local volunteers, the Project Officer will be responsible for capturing some of them for posterity, and working with the Director of JSCN to create a small communities’ Heritage Hub on the existing JSCN website.
