About JSCN

The Jewish Small Communities Network (JSCN) is a UK registered charity, founded in 2003 and incorporated in 2016, dedicated to serving Jewish communities outside the major conurbations. We connect, support and advocate for around 60 smaller communities across the UK — from Southport to Exeter, Inverness to Canterbury — and have built an unrivalled body of knowledge, relationships and resources over more than 20 years.

Though a small organisation, JSCN engages at the highest level of the Jewish communal world alongside bodies such as the Board of Deputies and the Jewish Leadership Council. Our programmes range from community events and an annual Summit, to school visits reaching thousands of pupils, antisemitism awareness education, leadership development, and a Jewish Heritage Hub. We also run JewishTALK, our own podcast, and maintain a rich online resource library.

This is a role for someone who is energised by variety, cares deeply about Jewish communal life, and wants their work to make a real difference to small communities that are often overlooked.

Purpose of the Role

The CEO is currently the only permanent member of staff. This new role exists to provide broad operational and administrative support that will allow the CEO to focus on strategic leadership, fundraising, and high-level stakeholder engagement. The post-holder will become a trusted right hand to the CEO and an important point of contact for JSCN’s communities, partners, and supporters.

You will be excellent in administrative tasks, compiling data, keeping detailed diary records of activities etc. which are essential for evaluating our successes and reporting to our stakeholders.
In addition you will have a vested interest in embracing the JSCN ethos and engaging others in our perspective.

Key Responsibilities
Events & Community Engagement
  • Co-ordinate logistics for JSCN’s programme of community events, including the Annual Summit, ONE Shabbat, webinars, and regional gatherings.
  • Manage event bookings, communications, and follow-up, ensuring participants receive a smooth experience.
  • Support the school and synagogue visits programme, helping to schedule visits and liaise with schools and community contacts.
  • Assist with the Empowering Leadership Programme and other community-facing initiatives as they arise.
Communications & Awareness Raising
  • Produce and distribute JSCN’s regular newsletter, working with the CEO to gather content and ensure timely publication.
  • Manage JSCN’s social media presence (Instagram, Facebook), creating engaging content that reflects the organisation’s voice and keeps communities informed.
  • Draft and edit a range of written materials including articles, web content, event announcements, and correspondence.
  • Assist with the JewishTALK podcast — co-ordinating guests, scheduling recordings, and helping with publication.
Stakeholder & Community Co-ordination
  • Act as a first point of contact for community leaders, member organisations, and external partners, responding to enquiries and routing them appropriately.
  • Help co-ordinate conversations and meetings between JSCN and community representatives, national Jewish organisations, and statutory bodies.
  • Support JSCN’s membership and affiliate network, including processing renewals, responding to queries, and maintaining records.
  • Assist with research and horizon-scanning to keep the CEO informed of relevant developments in the Jewish communal landscape.
Administration & Database Management
  • Maintain and develop JSCN’s contact databases and CRM, ensuring records are accurate and up to date.
  • Manage the CEO’s diary, scheduling meetings and managing competing demands on their time.
  • Handle general correspondence, inbox management, and administrative tasks as required.
  • Support the CEO with fundraising administration, including drafting thank-you letters, logging donations, and preparing materials for grant applications.
  • Maintain accurate filing and document management systems.
Person Specification
Essential
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write clearly and warmly for different audiences.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines without close supervision.
  • Confident user of standard digital tools: email, word processing, spreadsheets, social media platforms, and video conferencing.
  • A proactive and flexible attitude — comfortable with variety and willing to turn your hand to whatever is needed.
  • Sensitivity to and knowledge of Jewish community life, culture, and traditions, especially in smaller regional communities.
  • Discretion and good judgement when handling sensitive information or delicate situations.
  • Clean driving licence and access to car.
Desirable
  • Experience in a charity, community organisation, or similar environment.
  • Familiarity with email marketing tools (eg. Mailchimp)  CRM systems, Project platforms (eg. Monday)
  • Experience of producing content for social media or newsletters.
  • Knowledge of the Jewish communal landscape in the UK, including smaller communities outside London.
  • Experience supporting events, from planning through to delivery.
