ABOUT THE TALK:
Ruth shares the true story of her family across three generations of women in London’s Jewish East End
The impact of a hidden family tragedy ripples across three generations of a Jewish family in Where are the Grown Ups?
Ruth uncovered the true story of Rose, the maternal grandmother she never knew, after discovering some photographs among her late mother’s possessions.
Rose Dehaan, née Wagenhuizen, a cigarette maker of Stepney Green, East London, died in 1930, at the age of 25.
Using a combination of historical research and lived experience, the book examines the impact of this death on her mother Sylvia, and herself.
A vibrant storyteller and well-travelled Ruth Badley unravels whispered tales that start at the beginning of the 20th century and continue to the present day.
