UK Wide Funders

  1. #ArtInAid – for every acquisitions of artworks, Le Dame Art Gallery will donate 30% on sales to a charity of your choice or to one among those they have selected: WHO – Wellcome Trust – Italian Hospitals – CDC Foundation.
  2. Asda – has donated £5m to its partners FareShare and the Trussell Trust. This will provide over 4 million meals to families in poverty, as well as more than 3000 charities access to free food over the next 3 months. That’s fantastic of Asda, but the need is huge – support the Trussell Trust by donating here.
  3. Arts Council England – emergency funding package and Support for funded organisations and individuals announced.
  4. Authors Emergency Fund – professional authors who are resident in the UK or British subjects – including all types of writers, illustrators, literary translators, scriptwriters, poets, journalists and others.
  5. Big Society Capital – plans emergency £100m loan fund for charities.
  6. Cadent Foundation – Midlands, North West England, South Yorkshire, East of England and North London. Comitted £240k to the Trussell Trust last week, ready to support other worthy causes.
  7. CAF Coronavirus Emergency Fund – organisations with income of £1m or less, up to £10k to support day-to-day activities in the current health emergency or your Covid-19 emergency response activities.
  8. CaRe20 – Caring for Retail during Covid-19 – £10m appeal, financial, emotional, physical and vocational support to store workers who may be ineligible for government support during the health emergency.
  9. Care Workers Crisis Grants – grants to care workers.
  10. Cavell Nurses Trust – additional funding for grants designed to help nursing and midwifery professionals support their living costs like rent and utility bills.
  11. Comic Relief – some of the money raised through Sport Relief 2020 will go to organisations on the frontline. Support for grantees through adapting activities, reviewing timeframes, or re-budgeting remaining funds.
  12. Co-op – £1.5 million of essential food products to FareShare’s 23 regional centres, and then supplied to a network of local community groups across the country.
  13. Film and TV Emergency Relief Fund – established with a £1m donation from Netflix for anyone impacted in the industry by shutdown.
  14. Greggs Foundation – funding for emergency food parcels, hardship payments and other support to schools and community hubs.
  15. Help For Musicians – guidance and hardship fund.
  16. Hospitality Industries Funders – various, those without work as a result of coronavirus lockdown in the UK. Temporarily closed due to volume of applications 25 March.
  17. Indigo Trust – has donated £1m to the Trussell Trust for food banks.
  18. John Lewis & Waitrose – launched a £1m Community Support Fund to be distributed by Waitrose shops to local communities, and a support fund to aid staff facing additional costs as a result of the pandemic.
  19. Leathersellers Company – prioritise applications from UK registered charities supporting the homeless or those at risk of becoming homeless, provision of food and essential supplies, victims of domestic violence, nursing care to vulnerable patients.
  20. Make A Difference Trust – small pockets of financial assistance to those in theatre experiencing unexpected financial hardship due to theatre closures as a direct result of Government advice aimed at containing the spread of Coronavirus.
  21. Martin Lewis – has made £1m available to fund urgent coronavirus grants of £5k to £20k to small registered UK charities – community aid, financial advice help and more –  to help with specific UK coronavirus-related poverty relief projects. His hope is to get the money is distributed within the next couple of weeks. Closed to new applications.
  22. National Lottery – announces all the funding decisions for next 6 months (up to £300m) will be devoted to crisis and they will accelerate the cash part of this funding as much as possible. 
  23. Neighbourly – micro-grants of up to £400, to support good causes that are helping communities affected by the new Coronavirus outbreak.
  24. The National Emergencies Trust – launching an to help those most effected by the outbreak. They collaborate with charities and other bodies to raise and distribute money and support victims at the time of a domestic disaster.
  25. PRS For Music – PRS members globally – grants of up to £1000 each, depending on need.
  26. Sport England: Community Emergency Fund – including those not currently supported by us, who have a role in supporting the nation to be active but who are experiencing short-term financial hardship or the ceasing of operations due to the impact of coronavirus. Organisations can apply for grants between £300 and £10,000.
  27. Sport England: Sector Partner Fund – Active Partnerships and national governing bodies, on bespoke measures that may be needed for any instances of immediate financial distress.
  28. Sport England: Sector Stimulation Fund – will be rolled out in coming weeks.
  29. Standard Life Foundation – work directly related to crisis, addressing challenges & helping to contribute to social change which tackles financial problems and improves living standards.
  30. Support for Theatre Professionals during Coronavirus  – collection of funds and sources of advice or support for those in the theatre industry. Funds are available from institution specific funders and from those that support the wider industry.
  31. Sylvia Adams Charitable Trust – coronavirus funding announced, no details yet. Works with young people.
  32. Tech Force 19 – innovators who can support the elderly, vulnerable and self-isolating during COVID-19 to apply for government funding of up to £25,000 to test their solution.
  33. Vo Tech Now – part of Ufi’s response to support the vocational learning sector in the UK during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Country Specific Funders

Scotland

  1. The Scottish Government – has announced £350m to support welfare and wellbeing, including a £20m 3rd sector Resilience Fund.
  2. SCVO – have collated funding resources and information for Scottish charities.
  3. Creative Scotland Open Fund: Sustaining Creative Development – support to help individuals and organisations to sustain themselves, £1k and £50k to enable organisations to explore ways of working that will help them to adapt and respond to the current changing circumstances
  4. Creative Scotland – Bridging Bursary Fund – individual artists and freelancers who have lost income from their creative work and/or practice, £500 and £2500 to help support immediate needs
  5. Screen Scotland – Bridging Bursary Programme – freelance or self-employed screen practitioners working in all parts of Scotland’s screen sector who have lost work and income, £500 to £2500 for immediate needs.
  6. Kilt Walk – bringing forward the distribution of the funds it raises for its postponed Glasgow and Aberdeen events to help charities whose incomes have been hit hard by coronavirus.

Northern Ireland

  1. Community Foundation NI – launched a Coronavirus Community Fund for community organisations emergency funding to deal with emerging issues in the community, affecting older people (aged 50 and over). Scope extended to include projects supporting those at increased risk, particularly in relation to poor mental health and wellbeing, vulnerable isolated people and families, particularly those living in rural areas.
  2. North West Volunteer Centre NI – community organisations – older people (aged 50 and over), as a result of the continuing threat of coronavirus, and the need for self isolation, and potential for further exacerbation of loneliness and isolation.

Wales

  1. Covid-19 Resilience Innovation Project – innovative projects to fund the purchasing of specific equipment, adjustments to existing processes, implementation of new processes.

Regional Funders

  1. Bedfordshire & Luton Community Foundation – now launched, with support from £180k in corporate donors.
  2. Berkshire Community Foundation – appeal launched. Details of how this funding can be accessed will be available soon.
  3. Big Give – #donateyourcommute – first £200k will be doubled through match funding provided by the Reed Family. Funding will go to NET.
  4. Cambridgeshire Coronavirus Community Fund – £1k – £5k, older people (aged 60 and over) and other vulnerable people (high risk, pre-existing medical conditions), including the need for self-isolation, financial hardship, potential for hunger, lack of shelter, further exacerbation of health issues, loneliness and isolation.
  5. Cheshire Community Foundation – activities that help vulnerable people self-isolating, provide funding to coordinate community response and support volunteers, and increase capacity for organisations providing emergency support, such as foodbanks or benefits advice.
  6. Community Chest Fund – Runcorn, exceptionally keen for the fund to support projects and initiatives to tackle any emerging challenges the virus is creating.
  7. Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and N’berland – Coronavirus Response and Recovery Fund. Two stages: response, then recovery. Response – extra money to organisations supporting older people and other vulnerable groups. Recovery – a wider group of local charities and community organisations whose operations and finances have been affected.
  8. Community Foundation for Calderdale – initial priority – grants of £1000 to local charities to help the most vulnerable.
  9. Community Foundation for Staffordshire – funding for organisations that support vulnerable members of our communities, which are finding it difficult to operate.
  10. County Durham Community Fund – local groups who make all the difference to the most vulnerable people in our communities.
  11. Cumbria Community Foundation – funding to charitable projects supporting people affected by the virus, helping to keep them safe and supported in their homes and reducing pressure on the NHS.
  12. Community Southwark – Coronavirus Help Fund – community organisations and local charities, for £5k-20k for specific coronavirus poverty relief projects.
  13. Devon Community Foundation – Devon Coronavirus Response and Recovery Fund – local charities and community organisations, in two stages: response, then recovery.
  14. Dorset Coronavirus Community Fund – charities, community groups and organisations who support vulnerable groups affected by the Coronavirus outbreak.
  15. Forever Manchester – grassroot community groups responding to the impact of Covid-19 by helping those most affected. Up to £1,000.
  16. Foundation Derbyshire’s Coronavirus Fund – community groups and organisations – initial focus on food banks and befriending services.
  17. Give Bradford Resilience Fund – charities and community groups across Bradford. 
  18. GMCA COVD-19 – 60 micro commissions to be given to artists and creators, based in Greater Manchester, across all artforms.
  19. Heart of England Community Foundation – Coronavirus resilience Fund appeal to help champion local communities and projects.
  20. Heart of Bucks Community Foundation – Coronavirus Response Appeal today (21 March) to support people and charities in Buckinghamshire who are most affected and vulnerable at this time of crisis.
  21. Hertfordshire Coronavirus Disaster Relief Fund – local charities supporting local people facing a range of social issues including social isolation, food poverty, poverty and poor mental health.
  22. Kent Community Foundation – priority to constituted community groups e.g. charities/CICs, with annual income of less than £200K, who are supporting isolated older people at this time. Focus emerging issues in the community, affecting older people.
  23. LCRCares COVID-19 Community Support Fund – The Community Foundation for Merseyside will be managing all donations received on behalf of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and the Mayor for the most vulnerable people affected by the coronavirus.
  24. Leeds Community Foundation Resilience Fund – to support charities and community groups across.
  25. Lincolnshire Community Foundation – the most vulnerable people in our communities, help local community organisations prepare themselves to respond and develop advice and support initiatives.
  26. London Community Foundation – essential funds to grass roots charities and community groups.
  27. London Funders – £2m fund for organisations facing immediate financial pressures and uncertainty because of the coronavirus, including increasing demands for services, higher staff absences, fewer volunteers and lower donations.
  28. London Landmarks – have announced the Local Landmarks Challenge. Runners identify their own local landmark, run a 5k, a 10k or a half marathon around it and raise money for charity. They have time until 3 May, anyone can participate, even if they could not secure a ticket for the main event.
  29. Maanch Response Fund – appeal launched, including corporate and high net worth donors. Join platform (it’s free), then call them to discuss. UK based charities, including working internationally – elderly, children, food banks, mental health, medical research.
  30. Milton Keynes Emergency Response Appeal – charities and community groups to support the most vulnerable people in Milton Keynes through the coronavirus outbreak.
  31. Newcastle upon Tyne Community Foundation – small, local charities and community organisations and which have previously received support from us who work with vulnerable groups. Will not be accepting applications.
  32. Norfolk Community Foundation – up to £1,000 are available to support community action to help vulnerable people affected by the Covid-19 outbreak.
  33. Northamptonshire Community Foundation – rapid support to charities and community organisations providing care and support for elderly and vulnerable people hit by the social and economic impact of the coronavirus.
  34. Oxford Community Foundation – help organisations to meet new needs appearing, restrictions mean they have to find new ways of meeting existing needs, to recover stronger, if their operations or income are interrupted.
  35. Quartet Community Foundation – West of England, Coronavirus Response Fund, grants up to £5k – elderly (aged 65 and over), people with disabilities and/or underlying health difficulties, homeless people, low income families, refugees and asylum seekers, people experiencing food poverty.
  36. Salford CVS – VCSE organisations – up to £500 to help address immediate need. Provision of food and household items to vulnerable groups, phone-based and other practical support to vulnerable groups / self-isolated households, emotional wellbeing and mental health support to those in need.
  37. Steve Morgan Foundation – £1m per week to charities in north Wales, Merseyside and Cheshire to help the most vulnerable members of society.
  38. Suffolk Community Foundation – older people at risk (typically over the age of 70), vulnerable people with medical conditions, those that are isolated and therefore have limited support networks, those picking up extra demand – such as food banks, telephone befriending, and advice services, good neighbourhood schemes.
  39. Surrey Coronavirus Response Fund – groups who are urgently responding to the needs of vulnerable local people.
  40. Sussex Community Foundation – Sussex Crisis Fund, initially to help local charities and community groups.
  41. Somerset Community Foundation – Somerset Coronavirus Response and Recovery Fund. Grants to be made on a rolling basis, beginning as soon as funds become available.
  42. Two Ridings Community Foundation – up to £2k, community organisations preparing themselves to appropriately respond, development of advice and support initiatives to fill gaps, groups that provide vital community support.
  43. Turn2Us – benefits calculator updated to reflect Government initiatives in response to the coronavirus.
  44. United in Hammersmith & Fulham – micro grants directly to groups. Focusing on the extra needs of at-risk groups, including people with complications severe enough to require hospital care, unable to cope with isolation, living in poverty.
  45. Wiltshire and Swindon Coronavirus Response Fund – prioritise groups supporting individuals who are most affected by the outbreak, particularly those facing issues brought about by isolation or loss of income.
  46. West Berkshire & North Hampshire – Greenham Trust – £250,000 for local charities and voluntary organisations supporting the elderly and vulnerable people.
  47. Worthing Community Chest – grants of up to £250 for small, ad hoc, neighbourhood projects that have been set up in response to the coronavirus.
  48. Young Barnet – brilliant people, so no surprise they’ve created a task force of charities to build a fund to support Barnet grassroots organisations in providing frontline support.

Local Funders

  1. East End Community Foundation – Hackney, City of London and Tower Hamlets.
  2. Hackney Giving – small organisations caring for the borough’s most vulnerable residents, including older people, the homeless, refugees and those with mental health needs or in poverty.
  3. Newcastle Round Table – up to £2,000 to local charities directly helping with the COVID19 response in Tyneside.
  4. Relief In Need – residents in Swaffham who are in need of emergency support.

Global Funders

  1. Binance Charity Foundation – Crypto Against COVID, $5m, to raise money from the broader digital currency and blockchain community. Primarily for medical supplies for countries, including Italy, Germany and the U.S.
  2. Candid – US version of this list – funding for US based non-profits.
  3. Face Book COVID 19 Solidarity Response Fundraiser – matching up to $10 million in donations to prevent, detect and respond to the outbreak around the world.
  4. Gates Foundation – up to $100 million to improve detection, isolation and treatment efforts; protect at-risk populations in Africa and South Asia; and accelerate the development of vaccines, drugs and diagnostics.
  5. Global Giving – Coronavirus Relief Fund – send doctors, nurses, and other front line responders to communities in need, get masks, ventilators, and other lifesaving medical supplies to hospitals and clinics, deliver essential items to struggling families and older individuals in quarantined cities and refugee camps, feed children that rely on school meals as their only source of nutrition, support hygiene awareness efforts. Micro grant $1000, apply here.
  6. KFF – funding internationally – donors, amounts, purpose and countries, including section for non-profits.
  7. Netflix – $100m fund to help creative community, including “third parties and nonprofits offering emergency relief to out-of-work crew and cast in countries where Netflix has a big production base.”
  8. Santander Fund – financed by a reduction in senior management, board compensation and employee contributions, to provide medical equipment and supplies to help limit the spread of the virus. The bank expects the initial value of the fund will be at least €25 million.
  9. Wellcome Epidemic Preparedness: COVID-19 funding call – currently closed to new expressions of interest while proposals received are reviewed.
  10. WHO COVID 19 – Solidarity Response Fund – essential supplies such as personal protective equipment to frontline health workers, enable all countries to track and detect the disease by boosting laboratory capacity through training and equipment, ensure health workers and communities everywhere have access to the latest information to protect themselves, prevent infection and care for those in need, accelerate efforts to fast-track lifesaving vaccines, diagnostics and treatments.

Government Financial Support

  1. Coronavirus – you can find comprehensive charity guidance on all the initiatives on theCharity Tax Group Coronavirus hub.
  2. Salaries – charities included in Government coronavirus wage scheme. 80 per cent of workers’ wages from the government, if they would otherwise have been made redundant.
  3. Local Authority Funding – £2.9 billion to support vulnerable people, including people who are homeless during the COVID-19 crisis.
  4. Gift Aid – We fail to claim £600m in Gift Aid each year and we now need that money more than ever. Unlike funding bids, as long as you qualify, the money is certain. There are different types. Are your claiming everything you’re entitled to? This Charity Excellence resource will give you what you need to get yours.
  5. Other Tax Reliefs – That’s just one of many tax reliefs and you can claim up to 4 years retrospectively – you can find links to all of them on the Charity Excellence website tax reliefs page. Join us and complete the 30 min Finance & Resources questionnaire. It will enable you to identify all the tax and other savings there might be. The toolkit, its huge resource base and quality mark are completely free.

Platforms

  1. National Funding Scheme has created 3 matched funding appeals for food banks, the homeless and the elderly. Funding will be donated to charities.
  2. Crowdfunder – has made fundraising on its platform free for charity and community groups during the crisis.
  3. Give As You Live – cancels donation fees for food banks.
