The congregation was founded by Andrew and Angela Jay of Eastbourne in the autumn of 2001.
Ruth Selo was elected Chair and Larry Navon vice-chair at the AGM on 16th October 2016.
Eastbourne Liberal Jewish Community serves progressive Jews in Eastbourne and the wider East Sussex area (Lewes, Peacehaven, Newhaven, Seaford, Bexhill, Hastings) who want to belong a vibrant Jewish community.

Venues are Christ the King Catholic church hall, 3 Princes Road, Eastbourne, East Sussex BN23 6HS and at Alice Croft House, Cornfield Lane, Eastbourne, BN21 4NE.
Services are led by student rabbis, visiting rabbis and lay leaders and there are always many opportunities for congregation participation from those who wish to do so. The services are in a mixture of English and Hebrew (with transliteration available) and are dignified but informal.
