Student Rabbi Deborah Blausten officiated at her first Shabbat morning service for the York Liberal Jewish community on Saturday 17th September.
Liberal Judaism which prides itself on having an inclusive, egalitarian outlook, had a special service last Shabbat in York. The service, attended by more than 60 congregants, also included an admission ceremony for two members of the community who have recently converted to Judaism.
“I feel it’s a privilege to be here in this historic city and to share this special day with members of this community,” said Deborah. “I am looking forward to my time in York and to exploring this amazing city.”
Deborah, a student at Leo Baeck Rabbinic College, London, will next be in York to lead the High Holy Day services, the highlight of the Jewish Year.
