Pam's academic background is as a social historian. She studied Politics and History at Bedford College, University of London, Social Administration at Brunel University and for a PhD in social history at The London School of Economics.
She is very involved in Jewish affairs and has a particular interest in Jewish social history. She is a prolific writer and her book, A Place to Call My Jewish Home: Memories of the Liberal Jewish Synagogue 1911–2011 was published in 2011 alongside numerous other publications she has to her name. She recently completed a book on the hundred-year history of the Rinkoff Jewish bakery in London’s East End, The Rinkoff Story

A comprehensive and detailed story from the start of the community to the emergence of an additional Reform community and the challenges of maintaining communities to the present day. This particular chapter was chosen because it also explores how the St Anne's community - one of our 'Small' Histories - took the lead in supporting refugees and evacuees in WWII.

Bernard Susser - The nineteenth-century constitution of the Sunderland congregation (extract)
This exploration of the synagogue's constitution reveals a series of layered histories.
Written in 1969, the piece was not published until 2005, at which point it received an Epilogue by the late Charles H. Slater, Chairman of Sunderland Hebrew Congregation.

Lieutenant Colonel Mordaunt Cohen, the oldest and highest-ranking British Jewish officer to serve in World War II still alive (2018). Still a soldier at heart — patriotic, confident, and humble — as he recounts in vivid detail how he kept mitzvos in the trenches of Nigeria and Burma. That fighting spirit has even earned him a place on the Queen’s 2018 honors list for educating a public decades removed from the horrors of war.
