Newport synagogue had 300 visitors attend its open day last Sunday, 22nd September.
The Welsh community there dates back to 1859. On display was a Victorian chuppah restored for the occasion.
“It was a fantastic success.“ said Ronnie Black, 75, one of a handful of local members of the synagogue who also looks after the cemetery.
“We’d like to open the building on a monthly basis“ said Nicola Tucker, an art historian from Cardiff, who was also involved organising the open event. “We’ve had interest from interfaith groups and historic societies in holding meetings there.“

I am interested in finding my grandfathers grave he was Jewish and lived in Blackwood. Could I come to an event ?
