To mark this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day, Manchester Jewish Museum will be staging an afternoon of performances and readings about the Kindertransport.
Manchester School of Theatre will perform scenes from Diane Samuels play, ‘Kindertransport’ – telling the story of Eva, a child refugee who fled Germany and settled in Manchester.
Following this, members of the Jewish community will read extracts from ‘The Harris House Diary’ – a fascinating item from the museum’s collection. In 1940 eighteen young Jewish girls who came on the Kindertransport were welcomed to a hostel in Southport where they were given a home. Written by the girls themselves, the diary tells their story. Their voices and the hidden messages behind them will be brought to life by young members of Manchester’s Jewish community.
The reading from the Harris House Diary is produced and directed by Fran Horwich.
