Middlesbrough’s first synagogue, in Brentnall Street, held its first service on Shabbat 6th June 1874 and the building was formally consecrated on Wednesday, 24th June, 1874.
A new larger synagogue replaced it, in Park Road South, in 1937
The neighbourging community of Hartlepool Congregation closed in 1968 and merged with Middlesbrough. The Stockton Congregation followed suit in 1971.
Status: The Middlesborough community closed its doors in 1998.
