A number of years ago Llandudno and Colwyn Bay Hebrew Congregations merged, with Llandudno becoming the focus.
The local Llandudno community is very small, but still runs the shul.
A number of years ago the community made an arrangement with a group of Chabad trustees to run the apartments above the shul as a Chabad retreat, so as to encourage a regular minyan.
CHABAD RETREAT CENTRE
During the summer Llandudno is a popular destination for Chareidi and Hassidim, with various activities and popup kosher shops servicing religious visitors. Exactly what is available from month to month and year to year varies considerably.
To enquire or book a stay at the Retreat Centre ring 0161 792 2177 and leave a message.
Rabbi Wise also runs a Mother & Baby home. This provides a place of calm and support for mothers in the six week period after giving birth. (Leave a message on the Chabad number above for contact details)
Shacharit, Shabbat & other Services
There are frequently Shabbat Minyanim during the summer - varying at other times during the year.
Services are primarily conducted by visiting Lubavitch.
Check the noticeboard outside the Shul to find out week by week if there is a Minyan.
In the summer holidays there is a minyan daily
(Approx from Tisha B'av untilRosh Chodesh of Elul).

Llandudno’s popularity with Jews is nothing new: Nathan Abrams
As early as Victorian times, the commercial opportunities afforded by Llandudno’s emergence as a holiday resort attracted many Jewish merchants. Over the years, the Jewish community played a huge part in the development of the town, its economy, its culture, its political life and even its sporting achievements.
Families such as the Wartskis, Lazars, Croops, Gubays and Blairmans became local fixtures and their shops well known as they served the local community. While these shops and their owners have long gone, traces of their presence remain. If you look closely... CONTINUE READING on JewTh!nk
In 2010 Conwy Council established the first Jewish cemetery in North Wales.
There have been substantial Jewish communities established over the last 100 years in North Wales, with synagogues in Llandudno, Colwyn Bay, Bangor and Caernarfon, but surprisingly there was no burial ground anywhere in the area. The only remaining synagogue in North Wales is now in Llandudno (est. 1946), close to Llanrhos cemetery.
The burial section at Llanrhos is run on liberal Judaism lines, with arrangements left up to the bereaved family to decide how they wish to hold the funeral and mourn afterwards.
The Council will prepare graves at the request of the family and can be for up to three burials.
For more information or to discuss your requirements contact Conwy Council 01492 577730, email erf@conwy.gov.uk

Message for Merfyn Jones (posted Sep 19 regarding a bag found in Anglesey):
Do you still have the bag?
Although not mine, I may be able to publicise it, or at least arrange for collection, as you say the books inside may not be things to be disposed of.
You can call or text me 07407 612049

Are there any services or events week commencing 22nd September
Hello, a person of your faith left a backpack on the town green at Beaumaris ,Anglesey the day before we held our food festival. We would like to return it to him in case some of the books inside are of value.
There is no visible sign of a name or address, but should anyone wish, they can pick it up from our shop in Beaumaris, or if you can give me an address, I would be happy to drop it off when passing.
Best,
Merfyn Jones

Did hear of a proposed kosher shop this year in Deganwy, don’t remember details.
We would like to stay in the area from August 18-25, but would like to know whether there will be daily services during this time as my husband is saying kaddish. Will any meals be available, particularly over Shabbos?
There used to be a painting, of Janucz Korshak and the orphaned children he refused to abandon when they, the children, were deported to concentration camp and Korshak, who had been released, insisted upon going with them. The painting hung in the vestibule at the Colwyn Bay Shul. Does anyone know the whereabouts of that painting?
Sefton Gate Hotel run by Jack and Bessie Morris. I stayed there in the 1950s.
Was it Berrys hotel?
I don’t think the hotel mentioned is the right one. Probably a smaller b&b.
Bernard Croop mentions the Sefton Gate Hotel in his memoir on Jewish Gen https://www.jewishgen.org/jcr-uk/community/llandudno/reminiscence-Bernard_Croop.htm
I would like to find out the name of a kosher hotel that was on the beachfront of Llandudno in 1946. My parents spent their honeymoon there. I will be visiting in mid May this year and would love to visit the old hotel if possible

I remember years ago staying in the shul house and paying a nominal rent – 20 pounds a week I think – in exchange for conducting services.
Would be happy to so so again.
