York Liberal Jewish Community is offering its popular adult education course, Judaism 101, for the third year running. The course is open to anyone, and will cover many topics, jointly led by Gabriel Webber and Student Rabbi Deborah Blausten.
The first of this year’s series, which will be led by Gabriel Webber, will consider The Creation. Gabriel says: “The Torah devotes a couple of chapters to the world’s very first inhabitants, but other Jewish texts give great detail of every element of the creation. This session will explore lessons we can take from these remarkable midrashim (stories).”
Gabriel is Community development manager at Finchley Progressive Synagogue and spent a year as lay leader at Kingston Liberal. He has a background in youth work and is particularly interested in how traditional Jewish values function in the modern world.
Open to everyone – whether completely new to Judaism, exploring, or ready for a refresher – each session of Judaism 101 stands alone, so you can build a strong foundation of Jewish knowledge and experience, based around study of sacred texts, holidays and Jewish theology.
Attendance is free, but those that can are encouraged to make a small donation (suggested £5 a session or £25 for the term) in accordance with their ability to pay. Donations can be made on the night.
The course has already started, but welcomes additional participants.
