Sheffield & District Reform Jewish Congregation

We are a small Congregation based in Sheffield, in the North of England, UK.

We formed in 1989 from a nucleus of members of Sinai Synagogue in Leeds living in the Sheffield area – assisted by Rabbi Walter Rothschild (then the Rabbi at Sinai Synagogue, Leeds).

We are affiliated to MRJ (the Movement for Reform Judaism) – and generally follow their pattern of services.

Date Formed: 1989

Saturday 22nd July - 10.30am

Join us for an inclusive and participatory Shabbat morning experience. Rabbi Naomi Goldman will talk everyone through the structure of the service with a few prayers, readings, some guided meditation and sharing. Followed by a 'bring & share' lunch (approx 12.30pm)

Saturday 22nd July - 1.30pm

'Everything you wanted to know about Jewish prayer but were afraid to ask'. Led by Rabbi Naomi Goldman

What do we think we’re doing when we pray? What if you don’t believe in God? How did the Shabbat service evolve? What do the prayers really mean? How can we pray without the Siddur and “out of the box”. An afternoon of considering the big questions and looking at ideas that lie behind the prayers we do say on Shabbat. Whether you pray or whether you don’t, whether you’re an atheist or a spiritual seeker (or both), this is the time for finding out everything you wanted to know about Shabbat prayer – including what the point of it all might be.
