Yehuda Oppenheimer, Israel's greatest accordionist and a superb composer, died on Saturday February 18th in Jerusalem, in his 86th year. His early life had parallels with that of Anne Frank. Born in Germany, his family moved to Holland in the 1930s, hoping to escape Nazi persecution, and when war came they spent 5 years in hiding. Unlike Anne Frank's family, the Oppenheimers survived. After the war, Yehuda went to Israel, where he began a remarkable career in music, and brought great joy to the world through his music. His funeral, in keeping with Jewish tradition, is today.
